TKO’s Latest WWE Experiment Makes No Sense
Share:

TKO’s latest experiment for WWE is here and it once again makes zero sense.

The TKO machinery is a complex structure involving meticulous planning and carefully articulated decisions determining the future of a billion dollar pro wrestling company in WWE. Or so you would think. In reality Ari Emanuel, Mark Shapiro, and their men come off as money-hungry capitalist executives, who have made it their life’s mission to be as aloof from reality as a sage in the Himalayas.

Often, most of TKO’s decisions make sense from a monetary point of view, at least we know they prefer the green paper. Whether it’s the high ticket prices, the never-ending ads, the ring mat looking like a billboard or the likes, you just know they are doing it for the money. But sometimes a decision so daft and ignorant will come along that you’d feel like bashing your head against a wall.

The first of those was including Pat McAfee as Randy Orton’s manager in his WrestleMania feud against Cody Rhodes. Then they found their new Pat McAfee and now something worse is about to take place.

TKO’s Half-Time Concert For WWE PLEs Is Laughable

The fun part about all this almost perverse desire for the main stream attention is that mainstream artists almost always never work when it comes to WWE. Musical presentations within a pro wrestling landscape almost always end in disasters unless it’s being for a superstar’s entrance. A stand-alone concert is not what the crowd is there for. Pro wrestling is not like a game of football, it doesn’t have a continuous session of play with a cooling off period in between.

When FIFA introduced the half-time show during this year’s FIFA World Cup it made more sense for that than in WWE. Imagine going to watch a play or a movie and there’s a concert in the intermission for no reason that is unrelated to the film or play you are watching. This has the same vibe.

According to WrestleVotes, TKO is ‘soft launching’ a half-time concert kind of event where they have musicians perform and the whole nine yards. It will start with the upcoming edition of Saturday, sorry Sunday, Night’s Main Event and could be introduced in the upcoming PLEs, at least some of the major ones.

It makes zero sense. Multiple wrestling matches happen in one night and there’s always a break in between to prepare you for the next one. There are video packages, backstage segments, or some other shenanigans that are related to the show at hand. This is not the superbowl, or the FIFA World Cup or anything of that sort and it makes very little sense to actually have something like this.

At a time when WWE theme songs are at an all time low and the product is being bashed left, right and centre, the focus should be on enhancing the fan experience through better booking, not meaningless concerts.
