Welcome to Pro Wrestling Takes’ rundown of WWE SmackDown this week, an average show with a great main event.
The show started off well with the final qualifying match for the women’s Money in the Bank match, as Tatum Paxley, Tiffany Stratton, and Candice LeRae put on a clinic. The fact that it took WWE seven months to put Candice back on our screens should tell you enough about how clueless and directionless the creative team has been off late. That being said, she is a hard worker and proved once again why she belongs with the best on that roster.
Unfortunately, things then sort of went meeehhh for the rest of the show, as it felt like it was just two hours of nothing much happening.

WWE SmackDown Was An Average Show
Truth be told, there have been better shows of SmackDown in the past, that surely isn’t something that we all didn’t know, but rarely has there been an episode of the show where a lot of things have happened without nothing really happening.
The Main Event was a great bout between Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, Johnny Gargano with the Triple Threat encounter really keeping fans with the edge of their seats with some heated action. However, the finish was as predictable as the next sunrise, and ended up with Randy Orton costing Cody Rhodes the match.

Cody’s character is about as interesting as blank sheet of paper, and this is what is turning off fans. As a babyface, Rhodes has run his course, and that change needs to come sooner rather than later.
The other big part of the show was Giulia and Blake Monroe’s match as the two stars finally had their in-ring battle. It did not go exactly according to plan, or maybe it did.
SmackDown also had Penta and Je’Von Evans come out to confront Sami Zayn along with Trick Williams in a teaser for the Money in the Bank match. It was a pointless invasion for now apparent reason only for WWE to go ahead and announce that it would happen next week, this time with all the other stars in presence.
Gunther then attacked both Finn Balor and Sami Zayn, in what seems like a slow burn to a feud that should have already been done and dusted with or at least well on its way to being so.
The Rey Fenix Botch Was A Disaster
Botches are nothing uncommon in wrestling, but the last thing you wanted to see was a botch so apparent you feel like this was a novice running the ropes.
Fenix is a very trustworthy performer with years of experience under his belt. Disasters such as these happen all the time and it was another example of how risky pro wrestling and how much risk there is in these performances.
The match overall was anything but special and just like this entire show, neither here nor there.
The Giulia Situation Is Very Confusing
Giulia was in action against Blake Monroe as their highly anticipated match finally took place. The match came to a very abrupt end with Giulia hitting her head on the ring post, and then falling down. Monroe went on to pin her just like that and Giulia was even helped to the back after the match, leading to some legitimate concerns.
However, WWE uploaded footage of their altercation in an off-air segment, clearly hinting that all of this was storyline and nothing else.
Now, this begs a very important question. What exactly was the thinking behind the finish of the match?
It’s not like the finish was done to exactly protect anyone as Giulia came off as pretty reckless and simply an accident. Monroe on the other hand did not emerge as a strong star in her debut match.
To anybody watching this match and these two stars for the first time in their lives, there’s no reason to get behind them. As a matter of fact, there’s no reason for the match given how it ended.
It’s obvious to have the ending be as unique as possible, but it’s just baffling and unnecessary.
