The absolute mess that has been WWE Crown Jewel has somehow gotten worse.
At this point you don’t have to be too far away from civilisation to know that Saudi Arabia is under attack and that the US Government has basically told its citizens to stay as far away from the country as possible. Despite the concerns from everybody around the world and especially those working for the company, WWE has decided to travel to the country and host the show there, lest they scare away the investors in Saudi.
To achieve this goal Mark Shapiro even held a Town Hall with WWE Superstars and staff and told them that their safety was of the utmost importance and the company would do everything in their power to protect them…except, you know, cancelling the show in a country where there are literal and legitimate bomb threats.
They have also managed to change the location for the PLE, and shifted it from Riyadh to…you guessed it…Riyadh. The show will now be held in some other with reports suggesting it could be the Kingdom Arena. Either way, WWE has managed to make this situation even worse than it previously was.
WWE Crown Jewel Is A Mess!!
It’s clear that WWE is legitimately concerned about the wellbeing of their superstars, without wanting o do anything for them. The change in arena suggests that they want a more secure and guarded location rather than the open location from before. It also means that the promotion has likely jotted out and alternate last-minute scenario in case something goes haywire.
There have been rumors that the shift in venue was also due to a lack of ticket sales but that’s a bit hard to believe given the popularity of the product in Saudi Arabia.
So it’s a simple equation, WWE is legitimately putting the lives of their employees at stake for a B-grade PLE, in hopes of not tarnishing relationships with the Saudi royalty, but are shifting around venues anyway.
If this isn’t chaos then I don’t know what it, and more importantly, it’s one of the worst looks for a company in history.
On top of that recent reports suggest that they will be taking a very limited crew to the country and are hoping to use local suppliers to make the PLE go smoothly.
Good on Kevin Owens for refusing to go. Most wrestlers should take that path.
