The Rock’s future with WWE hangs in the balance, and the story gets very interesting after one point.
You’d have to be incredibly asinine to not consider The Rock one of the greatest superstars in WWE history. Dwayne Johnson was a revolutionary superstar when it came to cutting promos, having the fans at the palm of his hands, and was a generally good wrestler. Yes, he was no Shawn Michaels or Bret Hart, but The Rock could go in the ring, he had immense storytelling capabilities, and had an actual ability to play both a heel and a babyface, unlike some of his other family members.
For years The Rock was viewed as the general face of the company alongside Stone Cold Steve Austin. The dream match between Austin and Johnson legitimately felt like a huge deal at the time, the same goes for Rock vs Hulk Hogan, which was a passing of the torch, generational battle that fans had dreamt of for years.
If nothing, The Rock was the ultimate entertainer, the ultimate showstopper, the main event personified, but then he became a Hollywood superstar. The Scorpion King happened, The Mummy Returns happened, The Fast and Furious franchise happened, and suddenly The Rock went from being a wrestler turned actor to an A-List actor who could wrestle.
He showed up to WWE when he felt like the time was right, when he felt it was the best possible business decision or if one of his movies bombed. The Brahma Bull turned into Dwayne Johnson with each passing day, a PR machine, a man who would say the right things at the right time, and a complete babyface all over the world, or at least that’s what he wanted.

Then Black Adam happened, and all that beautifully curated image that Johnson spent years building up took a nose dive so catastrophic he was forced to return to WWE. Even then he wanted to be the ultimate babyface, but the support and love for Cody Rhodes changed all those plans and forced him to transform into the Final Boss. In all honesty, it was a great character, he was great in it, and it totally made the feud multiple times better.
There were hints at the time that The Rock may not get along well with Triple H and his time backstage, especially since he was on the Board of Directors for WWE, but all those points were cast aside when Johnson kept making appearances for the company, ultimately leading to him asking for Cody Rhodes’ soul.
He didn’t get Rhodes’ soul, but certainly got John Cena’s, playing an instrumental part in The GOAT’s heel turn, and the start of that abysmal final year in wrestling. The most hilarious part came after that heel turn and the entire saga at Elimination Chamber 2025, he has never showed up in WWE since.
The Rock And WWE Definitely Have Some Beef, But He Will Be Back
It’s quite apparent at this point that one and half years after Elimination Chamber, The Rock and WWE/TKO have had some kind of falling apart. Dwayne Johnson barely talks about the World Wrestling Entertainment, and the reverse is also true.
That being said, there’s no doubt The Rock will be back in WWE at some point, and fans can expect to see him by the end of this year. He didn’t get the Oscar with The Smashing Machine, Moana bombed at the box office, and now all hopes lie on this Jumanji remake.
If you don’t want to see him back in WWE, you better hope this movie does well, but if you want to see Rock vs Roman at WrestleMania 43, then your best bet is if Jumanji just bombs.
Right now, The Brahma Bull doesn’t have the impetus to return to the squared circle, but a big fat pay cheque from Saudi Arabia may change that in a jiffy. With WrestleMania 43 actually happening in Saudi Arabia, expect everyone to go into overdrive to make it the biggest thing in the world.
So is The Rock really done with WWE? Most probably not. It’s only a matter of time before his jabroni backside shows up on one of the company’s shows. Does he have beef with the company’s management? It’s more likely than many of the fans would like to believe. But these are not fences that can’t be or haven’t been mended before.

Dwayne Johnson is too shrewd a businessman and too intelligent a human being to ever burn his bridges with World Wrestling Entertainment. A mix of factors such as scheduling conflicts, projects, misaligned thought processes have deferred his return, but rest assured, it has not been derailed.
He might be exploring a career in music right now, but the farewell song of his wrestling career has yet to be played.
