Royce Keys’ WWE faction has been meticulously planned and introduced on Monday Night RAW and it’s Triple H’s biggest gamble yet.
Triple H has been at the forefront of everything WWE creative since taking over from Vince McMahon. Immediately after Vince McMahon’s resignation in June of 2022, The Game took charge of creative but the storylines that McMahon left behind fell on his son-in-law’s lap and he had to carry that on for some time more. That being said, Hunter did try for a while to stamp his own authority on the product and succeeded before Vince McMahon came back and was running creative from the backend, before being ousted out of the company once again following the Janel Grant lawsuit.
Since January 2024 it has been all Triple H, but even then, The Game’s desire to leave stamp his creative legacy on the WWE product has been left unfulfilled. And now, Royce Keys’ 946 faction hopes to fulfill those wishes.
Triple H Wants 946 To Be His Grand Faction In WWE
If you take a look at WWE’s biggest factions right now, a few things become clear.
The Judgment Day, which is currently the oldest faction in the company (not counting The Bloodline because it was broken up and then re-formed), was created in February 2022 by Vince McMahon. The Bloodline was also McMahon’s idea and The Game just carried on the legacy.
The Vision was created by Triple H, but in reality it wasn’t the faction that he dreamt of. It was Seth Rollins and Paul Heyman’s idea to get the group going and to give Bron Breakker and great podium to stand on. Austin Theory was going to be the next face of the company under Vince McMahon. Bronson Reed is the only person who The Game hired back upon assuming office.
For Hunter to really stamp his presence he needed something bigger. The Vision lost its aura after only a few months and has been plagued with injuries. Whatever he had planned for it was marred with countless injuries and setbacks. Now with Maxxine Dupri, Austin Theory, and Logan Paul, the group has become somewhat of a meme.
Many are demanding the Brons be ridden of that group and be left on their separate paths, noting that they have outlived the value of that stable.
That is why Triple H resorted to a new stable on WWE RAW – a stable that he thinks will be his version of The SHIELD, a group that is taken seriously, is dominant and can produce future main eventers.
His choice to lead the group is also very interesting. Royce Keys, the leader of the group, isn’t just a great wrestler. He is great as a heel, but then he is also a former AEW star. It’s The Game’s way of establishing the new front in WWE. Now, False Finish is reporting that Royce Keys will be a future main eventer in the company, and not just that, but also a future world champion. Bronco Nima and Lucien Price are up and comers with a lot of potential and a great future, fresh off NXT.
That is not by coincidence, it is by design that The Game wants a former AEW guy to be the leader of his new SHIELD, and to make it the most ominous faction in the company. It’s a gamble that he is ready to run, it’s a risk he will take, in order to cement the fact that he too can create groups like Evolution, like The SHIELD, and everything else that Vince McMahon did.
To Hunter, it’s his litmus test, a step toward his ultimate goal – erasing Vince McMahon’s name from history once and for all. One the one hand he wanted The Vision to be the new Evolution, the wiley veteran in Paul Heyman (like Ric Flair), the experienced muti-title winning heel in Seth Rollins (like Triple H), the powerhouse in Bronson Reed (like Batista), and the up-and-coming future main-eventer and mult-time world title winner in Bron Breakker (like Randy Orton).
On the other hand, he now wants 946 to be his SHIELD – three budding stars with little to no history behind them, and impeccable desire to reach the top. The next Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose.
Will the gamble pay off? Only time will tell, but The Game is well and truly choosing his moves carefully.
