WWE’s attempts to get to AEW might finally be paying off as they just embarrassed Tony Khan.
Recently, AEW made the bold move of going head to head with WWE NXT, bringing back the Wednesday Night Wars when Tony Khan would regularly spank Triple H and Shawn Michaels and give them headaches not even Vince McMahon could resolve.
But the how the turntables…
WWE NXT Beats AEW Dynamite Ratings
In a turn of events that many would have seen coming in all honesty, NXT blew one of the most anticipates Dynamite out of the water.
The latest edition of both shows aired on Tuesday, with Dynamite emanating from Paris, France, while NXT was the same old same old. With no main roster stars or big players announced before the show while Tony Khan had a dream match in Will Ospreay as Kazuchika Okada as the main event, NXT did 532,000 viewers while Dynamite did 495,000.
The fact that Dynamite, AEW’s premiere show, coming from a hot hot hot crowd in France with a stacked match card couldn’t even cross 500k, should really ring the warning bells for Tony Khan.
He is already under a lot of pressure for the Skydance situation, and this is just adding salt to fresh wounds.
Remember that the highlight of the NXT show was a relatively unknown Wren Sinclair dressing up as a Lady Shani and revealing herself as Lady Shani. Nothing that matters much in the grand scheme of things. All this while, AEW had Darby Allin bleed out all the blood in his body and then some in a match against Kyle Fletcher.
Yes, the argument can be made that Khan was forced to push the show to a night he may not have wanted and was out of the usual time slot, but come on, it’s literally WWE’s second tier brand.
