WWE’s obsession with celebrities has annoyed quite the lot of us, but there’s a deeper reason behind why they keep pushing it.

WWE and TKO have a weird fascination for celebrities who may you not spot walking the streets of Los Angeles otherwise. Celebrities who only their mothers know and some who are so hard to watch or listen to, it actually drives you away from the product.

Now, the spirit of celebrity culture has not only gotten bigger, but it has also led to some very awkward situations. Most of us think it’s because they want the viral moments and engagements these celebs can give, but it’s a bit deeper than that.

WWE Wants To Go Mainstream Before AEW Can

WWE is more obsessed with AEW at this point than their own product. Their storylines may suck right now but all TKO can think of is going up against Tony Khan and his All Elite Wrestlers in Jacksonville. Their biggest competition in years is slowly turning WWE into fanatics for all the other worldly attention in the world.

Whether is Quavo or Pat McAfee or Lil Yachty or Matt Mathews, or Jelly Roll, or whoever is the new celebrity rapper on the block, WWE will not tire or hesitate to bring them into the next storyline or concert, whether you like it or not.

But the real reason is that it messes with AEW more than it messes with us, the fans. Over the past seven years Tony Khan has done everything to take business away from World Wrestling Entertainment, and he has succeeded in a way. But it is WWE’s desperation to be at the top that has driven their business strategies to somehow hurt and be a detriment to All Elite Wrestling in every way possible.

Whether it’s Mark Shapiro, Ari Emanuel, or Nick Khan, all hardcore businessmen would want nothing more to once again be the monopoly in a business that was mostly ruled by the guys at Titan Towers since WCW aired its last episode of Monday Nitro.

Now, the situation is a bit different and the only way to fix it is to find a stash of celebs who can come and garner for some mainstream attention. Truth be told Tony Khan doesn’t crave the mainstream attention and apart from a few collabs here and there, and some guest stars then and now, there hasn’t been much.

The same can’t be said for WWE. They have tried, they have failed, and then they come back for more. Whether it’s Pat McAfee inserted into storylines or Quavo in concerts in Atlanta, the list is endless. And this will continue, because TKO just isn’t chasing the viral moments anymore, they are chasing monopoly.
