WWE and Triple H are completely burying Carmelo Hayes and it’s pretty apparent at this point.
Carmelo Hayes debuted on the main roster with much fanfare. He was fresh off a sensational run in NXT where Melo was clearly the number one star for a long time with a great NXT Title run. His charisma, combined with his presence, and his exceptional in-ring skills, made him a fan favorite with many having high hopes for his future.
When Melo finally debuted on the main roster in 2024, he was paired with The Miz, and while that raised the eyebrows of many, people wanted to give WWE the benefit of the doubt given that The Miz is a two-time Grand Slam Champion and the guy who has an exceptional resume. He was perfect for working with young stars and the pairing started to work.
A few months after that Hayes won the United States Title in a banger against Ilja Dragunov and officially began his babyface run along with an open challenge. He put on banger after banger every passing week.

However, his insane US Title run was rewarded with a loss of the title just days before WrestleMania leading to him losing his spot at the biggest PLE of the year. As consolation he was given the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal win on the SmackDown before ‘Mania.
Not just that, Hayes and the fans petitioned for him to be on the show but those were ignored and since then Hayes has been trying in vain to win back the gold. His shot would have finally come at SummerSlam just days ago, but even that was taken away from him when Baron Corbin returned to the company and faced Trick Williams at the Biggest Party Of The Summer.
WWE Keeps On Burying Carmelo Hayes
On the latest episode of WWE SmackDown, Hayes was in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, and was supposed to take on Baron Corbin. Many fans thought this would be Hayes’ chance of winning the United States Title after an arduous journey and a long battle.
However, that was not the case. In fact, Melo lost the bout fair and square in a clean manner eating the End of Days in the middle of the ring. After this, it’s apparent he will no longer be in the US Title picture, giving him absolutely nothing to do.
As a matter of fact, Melo has only won two out of his last ten WWE matches with his stocks falling further with each passing day. His last win came on the 24th July edition of Main Event in a singles match against Ricky Saints. Since then Hayes has lost six straight matches. Even his home town couldn’t turn the tide in his favour as Hayes lost that bout too.
Since his debut on the main roster, the former US Champ has been featured in only one PLE, which was Money in the Bank 2024.

The once popular NXT Champion with a bright future is now languishing in the lower mid-card with practically nothing of note in sight for him. It is possible that his fortunes may change in the coming weeks, but with the way WWE has been booking him, fans shouldn’t keep their hopes too high.
