PWT WWE SmackDown Rundown: Top Faction Buried; The Vision Ruins Everything; These Title Changes Make No Sense [10/09]

Welcome to the Pro Wrestling Take rundown of WWE SmackDown, a mixed show with some great moments and some questionable booking.

WWE SmackDown continues to be a show that baffles me more or less every week. It has all the potential in the world, has certainly been stacked with star power, often leaving RAW far far behind, but then again, it has some of the most baffling booking decisions in history.

Fatal Influence Has Been Buried

Fatal Influence’s Lainey Reid and Fallon Henley had the title for a grand total of 83 out of which they defended it twice, both times on SmackDown, and the second of those title defenses led to their loss on the latest episode to Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley.

Basically, Triple H decided to take one of the hottest groups in WWE, crown them champions, and then decided to do nothing with them. That’s exceptionally bad stuff, and more so because they had ample women on the roster to bring out the best of them.

I get that Alexa and Paxley makes for a great moment, but their win comes at the expense of an absolutely abysmal run from two stars who have immense potential.

The Vision Ruins Everything

From one faction that doesn’t get enough opportunities, to another that is just plain poop at this point. The Vision once again showed up on SmackDown and Bron Breakker’s match against Trick Williams was hijacked with some of the most generic ending to a go-home show since the last generic ending to a go-home show.

The Vision came out, beat up Trick, then Penta and Je’Von Evans came out and all of them were taken out by Bronson Reed who delivered two Tsunamis. Oba Femi was nowhere to be seen, and the night ended in chaos.

It’s some of the most predictable and backwards booking in history. The Vision is a group that has run it’s course and is now trying to make a marathon out of a 100 meter dash.

Just end the group already and let Bron Breakker be a free man with Paul Heyman.

These Title Changes On WWE SmackDown Make No Sense

Title changes are great, nobody wants to see the same generic stuff day after day with the same champions cutting the same promos (looking at you Roman Reigns). But it should not come at the cost of another star’s momentum or make as little sense as humanly possible.

WWE SmackDown seems to be garnering the reputation for odd title changes that make very little sense with very little going in the way of momentum. CM Punk lost the undisputed title to Sami Zayn for no apparent reason, only for the creative team to do nothing with Zayn and repeat the same backstage segments again and again.

Hell, Zayn couldn’t even get a match at MITB.

The same is now true for the women’s tag team title. Fatal Influence did not even get a fair chance and not the belt has gone to Alexa Bliss and Tatum Paxley, which will quite obviously lead to a heel turn from either Bliss and Pax, turning on Charlotte Flair, or the other way round.

This could have been done without the title, and the needless burial of a group that had the fans behind them.

These needless title changes for the shock factor alone need to be stopped and WWE seriously needs to do better with more planned out yet surprising changes of their titles.
