WWE has found themselves in a messy situation with Chelsea Green.
Remember when fans were clamoring for a new champion when Rhea Ripley got injured and hadn’t been on TV for weeks? Well, now we have one in Chelsea Green, and boy is that not going down well. Immediately after her interim women’s title win at SummerSlam, fans around the celebrated the win for the Hot Mess who had strived throughout her life to get to this moment and win the world title in one of the grandest stages of them all, the second biggest after WrestleMania.
But then things took a very ugly turn. During SmackDown right after her win, Green got injured and since then has revealed that she broke her orbital bone. It’s clear that Green will be out of action for the foreseeable future, at least the next few weeks, and won’t be able to compete. WWE can’t strip her off the title now, since they never did that with Rhea Ripley and are now stuck with two injured champions for the same damn title.
WWE Have Been Caught In Their Own Trap With Chelsea Green
Preferential treatment can only get a company so far with Triple H and WWE now realising that they are trapped in their own game.
The promotion never stripped Ripley off the title even after it was clear the star was not returning to action anytime soon. As a matter of fact, they went as far as to crown an Interim Women’s Champion so that they would not have to take the belt off Ripley.
Now, with Chelsea Green clearly unable to compete in the near future, WWE’s hands are tied and they are now forced to go on with The Hot Mess as the champion.
Green will not be in action for the next few weeks, according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling News Observer, but it’s unlikely that Triple H will strip Green off the title and the inaugural United States Champ is likely to keep appearing on SmackDown until she is ready to defend the title.
It’s an incredibly dumb move and one that has now completely backfired on WWE because of the way they treated their more favourable and bankable champion.
