WWE Just Ruined The CM Punk & Kevin Owens Feud With Peak Lazy Booking

WWE just fumbled the CM Punk and Kevin Owens feud with some of the laziest booking possible.

Fans who were enjoying the CM Punk and Kevin Owens feud over the past weeks will be left mightily disappointed after what went down on WWE SmackDown. KO finally got a much deserved and long awaited shot at the world title when he took on CM Punk in his home country of Canada. But the star did not have much reasons to smile after Sami Zayn betrayed him.

Sami first tried to help KO by taking out Punk and then handing him the title to use on the Best in the World but Owens refused to use it leading to Sami betraying him and hitting him with the title instead. This led to Punk hitting the GTS and getting the win on SmackDown in what was a lazy and bizarre finish.

CM Punk And Kevin Owens’ WWE Feud Has Been Ruined

The ending to the match highlights the core deficiencies in WWE’s lazy booking as it has once again fallen in the same pattern. The steps are now as clear as day with the ref somehow getting knocked out, someone interferes, and ultimately it leads to the finish.

The pattern is so easily deducible that a five-year-old could now see through it, yet WWE repeats the same things again and again only for it to blow up in their faces. Sami Zayn involved in this feud is being justified as his hunger for the world title and his anger with CM Punk over costing him the belt on RAW a few weeks ago.

Zayn and Punk have been feuding for a while and his arguments about losing the belt are stale at this point. Meanwhile, the Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn friendship and betrayal angle has been done for years and in multiple storyline with fans really bored and tired of it at this point. It’s the same thing with both KO and Zayn as they try to first be friends and then turn into bitter enemies before becoming friends again.

The match was a great chance for WWE to really tell fans that they could do intricate and reality-laced storylines really well with two legend finally facing each other for the first time in their long and storied careers. They brought back their issues from 20 years ago only for Sami to show up and make it as dull as any other feud.

It’s a travesty that the promotion continuously feels the need to give fans the exact opposite of what they desire and in ways that really comes at the detriment of good storytelling. This was the laziest story that could have been told in this feud and that is exactly what has happened.

A great feud will now be turned into a Triple Threat match with Gunther also looking to get his nose into this, which may potentially make it a Fatal Four Way. On the one hand while Sami’s hatred for Punk has gotten the better of him, it also means that the title opportunities he got in the meantime mean nothing in kayfabe as he can just show up and insert himself in a title feud.

The booking is the same garbage being regurgitated for years without any fresh thought or idea being put into the matter.
