CM Punk just got screwed on WWE SmackDown but what does the title loss really mean for the star.

CM Punk faced Sami Zayn on WWE SmackDown and in a move nobody saw coming, the title was taken off Punk and given to Sami Zayn. The match was filled with shenanigans with Johnny Gargano coming out with Candice LeRae to try and help Zayn win the title. Punk averted that disaster before Kevin Owens came out and in an attempt to hit Zayn with the title he ended up hitting Punk, eventually costing him the title. But it wasn’t just a random title change and it has some deeper meaning.

CM Punk’s Title Loss Plays Into Some Major Factors

For starters, Punk could be injured and that was perhaps one of the primary reasons he lost the title. He has been teasing a knee injury for a few weeks now. While many thought it was just in storyline, the other side of the story might also be true and the star may be injured.

Another reason WWE took the title off Punk was to give a sudden jolt to SmackDown and shake up the brand somewhat. Zayn being the champion opens up another can of possibilities especially with Johnny Gargano and Kevin Owens now in the mix. But truth be told a Johnny Gargano Vs Sami Zayn WWE Title match feels like an upper midcard match at best and not a world title bout.

It also gives the promotion the opportunity to crown Randy Orton as the next champion as he has already claimed his stake at the title on SmackDown. With The Viper going after the title and winning it from Zayn, his next feud could be with CM Punk, giving fans a Randy Orton vs CM Punk title feud, something that has been long due.

In the meantime, Punk can feud with Owens while Finn Balor and Gunther are clearly in a feud after what happened on SmackDown.

It seems that the decision to crown Zayn as the champion isn’t just for no reason, and it is being done to protect a lot of the top stars on the brand while Zayn once again becomes bait to get pinned by Orton. As for Kevin Owens winning the title, let’s just hope that time can come soon.
